History of Quantity Surveying

Department of Quantity Surveying is one of the eight Departments that make up the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of NnamdiAzikiwe University, Awka. The Department of Building and Quantity Surveying commenced admission of students into the undergraduate programme in 2001/2002 session, while a separate Department of Quantity Surveying was subsequently created in August 2007.

The programme is structured to equip graduates with the requisite academic and practical knowledge to meet the mission of the programme, which is to educate and train our graduates for sound scientific, entrepreneurial and managerial skills for the control of construction project procurement process (cost, quality and time), for the benefit and satisfaction of clients, and the society.

In pursuit of these objectives, courses have been drawn from other disciplines such as the Natural Sciences, Engineering, Management, Law and Social Sciences as well as other disciplines in the Environmental Sciences.

Courses offered in the Department are categorized into two, namely compulsory and elective courses.  Students are expected to take all the compulsory courses and some of the elective courses, depending on their area of interest. To graduate, the student must have taken and passed all the compulsory courses as well as the electives, with a total credit unit not less than the minimum specified in the University Academic Regulation.
