History of Estate Management

The Department of Estate Management is one of the integral disciplines and programmes that make up the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The Department started admission of students for the undergraduate programme in 2001/2002 academic session.

The undergraduate programme is a five-year academic cum practical course curriculum, which leads to the award of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Estate Management. The programme is designed to equip the graduates with the requisite academic and practical background for professional practice of estate surveying and valuation in both private and public sectors of the economy as well as further academic attainments. In pursuit of these concepts, a number of courses have been drawn from different disciplines such as Engineering, Law, Management, Natural and Social Sciences including other spheres of Environmental Sciences and incorporated in the curriculum to give the graduate sufficient base to operate in the contemporary society.

The courses offered can be broadly categorized into two, namely: compulsory and elective courses. The student is expected to take all the compulsory courses and some of the elective courses as he/she elects to do in line with the specified guidelines. For graduation, the student must have taken and passed the compulsory courses as well as the elective which total credit units must not be less than the minimum specified in the appropriate section of this booklet.
