Estate Management Programmes

ADMISSION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Admission into the Department can be through the following modes:

2.1.      University Matriculation Examination (UME)

Candidate seeking admission into the Department through the University Matriculation Examination (UME) organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) must in addition to passing the entrance examination at the University specified level, possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education (SSCE) or its equivalent as recognized by the University passed, at least, at credit level to include the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Book-Keeping or Financial Accounting, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Surveying and Building Construction.

 

2.2.      Direct Entry (DE)

Holders of Higher School Certificate (HSC) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (AL) into two relevant subjects or Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Estate Management or very closely related disciplines or professional certificate who applied through the JAMB could be admitted into Year or Part II of the programme provided they satisfy the relevant credits requirement specified in 2.1 above. Such a student may be required to take remedial courses from Year or Part I as may be recommended by the Department.

 

Holders of degrees in the related disciplines or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Estate Management could also be considered for Direct Entry admission. Such candidate may be admitted into Year or Part II provided they meet the relevant credits requirement as contained in section 2.1 above.

 

2.3.      Pre-Science Examination (PSE)

Candidates who passed the necessary qualifying examination organized by the University Pre-Science Unit at the end of One Year Pre-Science Programme could be admitted to Year or Part I provided that they possess the relevant credits requirement as specified in section 2.1 above.

 

2.4.      Transfer

Transfers from other University would be treated on their individual merits and subject to the University guidelines on transfer cases.

 

3.0.      DURATION OF PROGRAMME

The Bachelor of Science Degree Programme in Estate Management shall last for a minimum period of ten semesters (i.e five academic years) for holders of Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education). However, no students shall be granted an extension for more than half of the normal duration (i.e fifteen semesters or 71/2 academic years) of the programme if he or she fails to graduate within the minimum duration.

 

4.0.      TITLE OF THE DEGREE TO BE AWARDED

The degree to be awarded on successful completion of the programme is known as Bachelor of Science in Estate Management abbreviated to B.Sc. (Estate Management).

 

5.0.      REQUIREMENT FOR AWARD OF DEGREE

The award of B.Sc. Estate Management degree is subject to the candidate fulfilling the University general conditions for award of degrees in addition to having satisfied the following:

  1. The candidate must have passed all the prescribed compulsory examinations including UMITT.
  2. The candidate must have completed minimum total credit units of 191.
  • The candidate must have successfully completed a semester of industrial work practical experience in recognized and approved organization; a report of which must be in a bound typewritten form.
  1. The candidate must have successfully completed a research work embodied in the form of project or dissertation report; and
  2. The candidate must have shown sufficient evidence of being worthy in character.

 

6.0.      COURSE REQUIREMENTS

The major course components that make up the curriculum for the B.Sc (Estate Management) degree programme comprises of Property Valuation, Plant and Machinery Valuation, Feasibility and Viability Appraisal, Property, Facilities, & Project Management, Building Technology, Law, Economics, Land Economics, Town Planning, among others. Some of these courses are offered outside the Department. Indeed, the course components can be categorized into three, namely:

  1. Those courses offered in the Department of Estate Management.
  2. Those courses offered in cognate departments; and
  • Those courses can be further categorized into compulsory core courses, compulsory ancillary courses and elective courses.

7.2.      Course Numbering System

Every course offered in the Department is designated with three letters ESM, which followed by a three-digit number. The first digit of the number indicates the level of year of study at which the course is offered. The second digit shows the stress areas from where the course obtains. The last digit of the number indicates the semester when the course is taught. Odd number signifies first semester while even number shows that the course is taught during second semester.
