DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc,) degree programme in Surveying and Geoinformatics at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is designed for a minimum of five years for Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) holder, four years for Ordinary National diploma (OND) with Upper credit level in Surveying, Higher National Diploma (HND) with Lower credit level in surveying. The second semester of year four is devoted for Industrial Training (SIWES).
3.0 ACADEMIC CONTENTS
3.1.0 Admission Requirements
3.1.1 Basic Academic Entry Qualification
Students seeking admission into Surveying and Geoinformatics programme of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka must have one of the following basic qualifications:
- Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) with credit level passes in at least five (5) subjects in not more than two (2) sittings: three of which must be in English Language, Mathematics and Physics; while two must be from Geography, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Fine Arts, Building Construction and Agricultural Science.
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Certificate with credit level passes in at least five (5) subjects in not more than two (2) sittings: three of which must be in English Language, Mathematics and Physics; while two must be from Geography, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Fine Arts, Building Construction and Agricultural Science.
iii. National Examination Council (NECO) SSCE with credit level passes in at least five (5) subjects in not more than two (2) sittings: three of which must be in English Language, Mathematics and Physics; while two must be from Geography, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Fine Arts, Building Construction and Agricultural Science.
Candidates who satisfy the basic academic entry requirements as outline above and in addition hold the:
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics at Upper Credit Level obtained from a Council recognized Polytechnic/Monotechnic could be admitted into 200 level of the programme.
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Surveying and Geoinformatics at Lower or Upper Credit Level obtained from a Council recognized Polytechnic/Monotechnic could be admitted into 200 level of the programme.
iii. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Certificate with principal passes in English Language, Mathematics and Physics; while two must be from Geography, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Fine Arts, Building Construction and Agricultural Science.
- Professional Diploma from the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.

4.1.0 Course Numbering System (Course Coding)
Each course originating in the Department is designated by three letters SVI, followed by a three-digit number.
The first digit designates the year, the second digit indicates the subject area, the third digit gives the order of the course in the same subject area in the year. For courses taken from other departments, the course codes of those departments are adopted. The middle digit of a University wide course is coded ‘0″. The final year project is coded 500. It is expected that students should start their final year project in semester 1 and complete in the second semester. The middle digit of survey course serviced to other departments on designated 8.
4.2.0 REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN SURVEYING
The general requirements for the award of degrees of the University are outlined in the University handbook on General Academic Regulations. In addition to the general requirements, candidates for the award of Bachelor of Science Degree in Surveying and Geoinformatics must satisfy the following conditions:
- Must have registered in all the courses prescribed for the 4 year or 5 year programme
- Must have passed all the prescribed exam/nations
- Must have performed satisfactorily in Industrial Training, field projects and above all shown evidence of good analytical and practical orientation in the discipline.
